The Subaru Impreza (WRX) got its start in 1992, following its predecessor the Subaru Legacy. In 1992 the WRX was pushing 240 HP with its 2.0 liter 4 cylinder boxer engine. However the European model pushed 210 HP....poor guys.
The model shown is my personal 2005 Impreza WRX STI. The first STI was engineered in 1994, with 250 HP. Not only did it come with more horsepower but a stronger transmission and better suspension. For the few that wanted to build a racecar there was also an "RA" model overseas. The "RA" model came with an electromechanical differential.
In 2008, Subaru designers gave the WRX and STI a complete make over trying to become a more mainstream vehicle. They got away from its roots of a World Rally Race car ( A race it won in 2001 & 2003.)
